Participants who have completed this course will be able to
Provide first aid skills to administer effective first aid in the workplace.
- Deal with first aid emergencies, assess and treat injuries and illnesses.
- Maintain care and comfort to the patient until medical treatment can be provided.
- To comply with occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
Overview of Course
This course is designed to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to provide first aid for life threatening injuries or illnesses and provide basic first aid.
This course is also recognised by the Health and Safety Authority for the workplace.
Preferred Entry Level and Entry Requirements
To be in certification of a QQI (formerly FETAC Level 5 OFA certificate within the past two years. Thereafter, the first aider will receive a certificate from a registered provider for 2 yearly refresher training as FETAC does not issue refresher certificates.

Unit 1: First Aid in the workplace.
Unit 2: Patient Assessment
Unit 3: Respiratory emergencies
Unit 4: Cardiac First Response (incl. CPR & use of AED)
Unit 5: Wounds and bleeding
Unit 6: Altered levels of consciousness
Unit 7: Musculoskeletal injuries
Unit 8: Burns, scalds, poisons, chemicals and electric shock
Certification
National Safety Centre Refresher Occupational First Aid Certificate
A one day Occupational First Aid refresher course must be taken every two years to remain in certification.
